{Happy Valentine's Day} February Diva Inspiration Blog Hop

Hi Guys and Welcome to our February Diva Inspiration Blog Hop,

well it's February which means Valentine's Day is coming up which always makes me think of chocolate sooo that's how I ended up with this sweet shoppe inspired color theme of mine here. :)
I've been super busy ...again...what's new right?! lol
But we're about midway through our term so finals are kicking in. On top of that I'm hoping to either get an internship or even a job next term which means I've had to put a demo reel together, look at companies' job listings and write cover letters. I have not had to write a cover letter in AGES!!! lol
I had to do some serious research to figure out what to even put in them! lol

Anyway...God willing I will find the right job at the right time! :)
Also a quick update on my dad: he's doing (all things considering) well. He just had his third chemo treatment this week. They haven't found any more tumors so that is wonderful news and he even started to do a little tinkering around the house again...well...whenever he has his energy back at least. :)

So now that I've caught you up on my life....let's talk Verve!!!!
If you've hopped along that you got here from Shannan's Blog, right?! Did she have something amazing for you or what?! Sooo ...

you could win a little Verve-y goodness!!
Wanna know how?

{What's Shaking?} Viva La Verve

Hello,

Have you had a chance to play along with this months' Viva La Verve challenges? I hope you have because the sketches so far have already been amazing and are sure to just keep on getting better and better. :) In case you haven't heard of Viva La Verve I'll post all the deets for ya at the end of this post.

First let me show you this week's sketch by Miss Andrea:

and now a little more info on my card:
I love love LOVE this bunny Julee designed. I think it's the cutest thing ever...don't ya just love that tail?! It reminds me of the squirrels at my parents house. Those are some cute little rascals. Nearly every time they hear the car pull out of the garage they hop to the garage and wait for my mom to throw some peanuts to them. Some of them come so close she can feed them by hand!! One time the door to the garage was open and one of them made it all the way inside on top of the cabinet where the bucket with the peanuts were. lol Imagine my mom's face when she walked into the garage to see the squirrel there!! I don't know who was more surprised...the squirrel or my mom! lol
Anyway back to the card... the bunny and sentiment are from the Verve mini set Bunny Shake.

I cut out the sentiment using Verve's Charming Banner Die Set and layered that on top of Verve's Charming Oval Die Set. The papers I used are from Cosmo Crickets' Earth Love collection and October Afternoon's Fly a Kite. Then all I did was added stitching, some ribbon and a button with some twine.
Oh and I almost forgot...I added liquid applique to the bunny's tail for some fluffiness and some glitter to the bunny. {of course lol I can't seem to make a card that doesn't have glitter on it somewhere :)}

now let me fill you in on the Viva La Verve deets:

Every Friday, a Diva will post a sketch for your enjoyment. Your cards, using the sketches, must be uploaded by the last Thursday of the month (check for the due date below!) The winner will be announced on the next day and will win a $100 gift certificate to VERVE! How awesome is that?! Just a reminder, Verve stamps are NOT required but we love to see you use them. Feel free to flip, rotate, resize, or otherwise alter the sketch as long as we can tell you USED the sketch!

For January, we'll have FOUR sketches! All FOUR cards must be uploaded to the VLVJan2012 gallery by midnight, CST on Thursday, February 1st to be eligible to win this month's prize! Winner will be announced on February 2nd! GOOD LUCK!

Keywords for the entire month will be VLVJan2012 and Verve (if using Verve stamps).

thanks so much for stopping by!!
'til next time,

Sony :)

{Live} Viva La Verve and an Update

Hi guys,

I wanted to give you an update on my dad before I jump into my card and stuff. After the initial round of chemo it was a little rough going at home. Dad is a difficult patient to say the least (who's dad isn't?) and it is really a huge transition for both of my parents. My mom used to be the one who was sick for many years and my dad was the one in charge. Now it's the other way around and well...let's just say it takes both of them some getting used to. ;)
Thankfully things got better and dad even managed to keep his weight up, which is really something to celebrate because chemo kills your taste buds. We were at the store pretty much every day, buying something for my dad. If he were a woman you'd thought he was pregnant!!! One day he wanted bean salad, the next one he wanted watermelon. lol But the most important thing was that he ate.
Today he starts his second round of chemo.

here's a picture of my mom and dad :)
If you'd like to send him and my mom a card...here's their address:
Norbert and Gisela Christoph
PO Box 560490
Rockledge, FL 32956

It means a great deal to him to get a card in the mail so if you have one to spare,
it would really make his day. Thank you kindly from me in advance!!

Speaking of cards...let me talk about my card:
Amber had a superfun sketch over at Viva La Verve and since I was trying to get rid of my jet lag (go figure I'm still on Eastern standard time :P) I thought stamping would be just the thing to do to stay awake lol.

Here's the sketch Amber came up with:

The sentiment and the cute little arrow are both from the Verve set Words of Wisdom. To get the tab I used the Sizzix on the Edge File Tab die and found out that the smaller sentiments of the Words of Wisdom set fit perfectly into the tab!!!! I mean PERFECTLY!!!! It was as if they were meant to go together!!! lol  Small things like that just make my day :)
Okay let's get back to the card...the flowers are from the set Verve set Amazing Wishes and that just leaves the cute Graph paper stamp with the matching die.

The papers I used are from Cosmo Crickets Garden Variety and Boyfriend collection. Some ribbon, stitching, flowers and glitter complete the card. :)

thanks so much for stopping by!!!
'til next time,

Sony :)

Peace

Nothing can bring you peace but yourself.
– Ralph Waldo Emerson

With my dad getting so sick so quickly I've forced myself to slow down a little this past Christmas Season. I took a little time, pushed the things I really ought to be doing aside and just slowed down. I chatted with friends, I created some cards....sometimes I just sat on the couch and watched some television but the important thing was that I just took the time to let my mind wander, which was something I hadn't allowed myself to do for quite some time. I was afraid I'd break down as soon as I'd stop. And I did break down when I finally did stop but it didn't last forever. And afterwards I felt better for having gone through it.

It was during one of those precious taking-time- moments that I came across a beautiful yet thoughtful post a friend of mine had posted on her blog recently. She used the word "linger" to describe her wishes for the new year. I think it is one of the most beautiful words I have heard in a long time.

Lingering is something I think all of us should cherish in this busy time of ours.
Our lives seem to overflow with appointments, activities, groceries, errands, soccer practices, recitals, birthdays, emails, cellphones, meetings, holidays, bills, depts, repairs. We rarely find the time nowadays to slow down a little, linger as my friend so nicely put it and cherish the present. I so often complain that time just flies by but really I myself am to blame for that. I allow time to fly by simply not taking a moment to slow down.

That is really all it takes you know...a moment and life is not such a blur anymore. Things that truly matter become clear. Unimportant ones fade away. Hurt and Anger fade away. You see God's blessings everywhere. The stress goes away and makes room for peace.

And isn't that what we all ultimately, knowingly or unknowingly yearn for?
With peace everything is possible.
And so I'd like to add Peace to Lingering as I believe these two go hand in hand.

I wish you a peaceful 2012 full of wonderfully lingering moments!

Peace starts within each one of us. When we have inner peace, we can be at peace with those around us. When our community is in a state of peace, it can share peace with neighboring communities, and so on. When we feel love and kindness towards others, it not only makes others feel loved and cared for, but it helps us also to develop inner happiness and peace.

2011 in Retrospect

Good Morning Everyone,

At the beginning of each year I like to take a moment and think about the year that's passed...what was good about it and what was bad about it. Remembering and thanking God for all the good things and {hopefully} ;) learning from the bad things. It sort of feels like a fresh start :)

In that same spirit I like to show you some of my favorite creations from last year:

Well that's it...I hope you enjoyed the little stroll down memory lane with me.
Time to create something new!!! lol

til next time,

{Love is in the Air} TCP Tuesday 191 & Mojo 222

a Hi and a Purge Hop Sneak Peek,

I had a little time today (before school starts back up on monday) so I got ink-y with it and combined this week's TCP Tuesday challenge with this week's Mojo Monday challenge aaand here's my result.

As you can see in the banner above my post...some of us Verve Divas are getting together for a Purge Blog Hop....we all have some new and/or gently used supplies we'd like to pass on to new homes. The blog hop will start January 21st...you'll have one week to leave a comment on each of the blogs and then each of us will select a random winner for the goodies we have to give away.
Why am I telling you all about it now?!
Because the cute little rocket and the Love is in the Air sentiment are both from the TCP set Puppy Love which I will be giving away. This is a brand new set and I think it's no longer available sooo if you'd like to have it be sure to come back here on the 21st to leave a comment or two. Oh and the dotted teal DP is part of the papers I'm giving away as well.

The other stamps I used for my card are from the TCP set Love Letters and the Verve set Let it Shine.
I used the matching CutUps Stamp Trio to cut out the cute little stamp and I used MFT's cloud Die-namic dies for the clouds.
I embossed the Kraft CS with the Seeing Spots Embossing Folder by Cuttlebug and the Summer Sunrise CS with the Perfect Polka Dotted Embossing Folder by Stampin' Up.

thanks so much for stopping by!
See you next time!!

{Wise Magnets} January Diva Inspirations Blog Hop

Happy New Year and Diva Inspiration Blog Hop!!!!

I hope you had a wonderful start to the new year!!! We're doing things a little different this year over in Diva Inspiration land...our Blog Hops will be on the 5th of every month from now on (no longer the 1st). If you're right on track then you got here from Shannan's blog.

Let me get started on my little project here:
As many of you know already my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer right before christmas. He started his chemo right away and well these are some cute little magnets I made, one for my mom and dad and one for me as reminders to stay strong and positive!

I used cardboard as re-inforcement, hot glue to get the little hardware details to stick (please watch your fingers...I always burn myself with that bloody thing :P) and then layered-distressed-layered (in that order ;). Oh and then a spritz of shimmer mist was the final touch!
Oh and one more little tip before I go and point you in the direction of my fellow Divas:
it's a little hard to see but the sentiments are embossed in black with some gold speckles in them. All I did for that was sprinkle black embossing powder on it first, gently tab it to lose some of it and then sprinkle gold embossing powder over that...apply some heat and there you go: black and gold embossing done!

Here are some detailed shots:

thanks so much for stopping by!!
Your next and last stop on the Hop is the one and only Susan Liles!!!
Tell her hi and give her a hug from me while you're at it! ;)
Oh and for a full list of Diva Blog Hoppers please stop by the Verve Blog.

And if you leave a little comment love as you hop about you just might win a $30 gift certificate to Verve!

Comment deadline for the prize drawing is 8pm Mountain on January 10.

{Winter Wishes Tag} Diva Inspirations

Merry Christmas!!!
I'm stopping in to show you this christmas tag I did yesterday. I love tags especially if you're ever in a crunch because a beautiful tag can save you the trouble from having to make another card....aaand you can make a fabulous assembly line for tags as well. :)

For this one here I used the snowflakes from the Glad Tidings set by Verve and paired it with a cup from the Delightful&Delicious set.

I unfortunately have some not so merry news this season: my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last week. My dad's doctor is concerned that it may have already spread into the lungs and brain so my dad had to go through a few more tests this week and tomorrow he starts with two rounds of chemo and then on thursday he has another two rounds of chemo ahead of him. According to the doctor the cancer is very aggressive so they're doing what they can. Looks like we'll be spending christmas in the hospital this year but at least we'll get to spend it together.

At first the news came as quite the shock and it felt as though someone had pulled the rug up from under me. It wasn't a good day when we go the news but thankfully we had church on that same day and because of the service that day and my brothers and sisters in the congregation I was able to find some peace again.
So now I take things day by day and I pray for God to give me the strength to make it through one day at a time. Some days are more of a struggle than others but overall I can gratefully say that I'm still holding on to that peace and that's the most important thing of all. As I've found out these past couple of days true strength comes from inner peace. (on a funny side note I think Kung Fu Panda 2 may have had sth to do with my little insight here ;)

I wish you all a wonderful and Merry Christmas!!!
I'll be travelling home to be with my parents tomorrow and I'll be posting updates on my dad's status here. I won't be packing my stamping supplies so I'll see you again for stamped goodies in the new year!!

Merry Christmas,

Sony

{Gingerbread Christmas} Diva Inspirations

Hi everyone,

well we're not having our usual Diva Inspirations Blog Hop this month because it's the holidays and everyone is extremely busy but I am on official break from school...three weeks off...yay!!! sooo I have a card for you today!!! lol

I call this cutie here Gingerbread Christmas because every time I look at this card it makes me think of a gingerbread latte at Starbucks...which I just tried for the very first time the other day and I have to say it was yummy but I think the smell was yummier than the taste...if that makes any sense. lol Next time I'm going back to my Chai latte. ;)

So let me tell you what I used on my card: I used the adorable Santa's Helper stamp and made him Rudolph (thanks to some distress Stickles Glitter). I used the snowflakes from the Verve set Glad Tidings and I used the graph paper stamp with the matching rounded rectangle die (also Verve). I've loved stationary stuff like pens and papers since I was a little girl. Whenever I visited my grandma we'd go to this small cute stationary shop around the corner. It was always my favorite stop sooo when Julee came out with graph paper and the lined paper I could not resist!!!
It's one of my favorite stamps...plus you can use it for any card, you can layer it...the possibilities are endless!!!

thank you so much for stopping by!!!
Happy Holidays!!!

{Razzle Dazzle Christmas} Diva Inspirations

Hi Everyone and Happy Holidays,

I hope all of you had a wonderful thanksgiving with lots of turkey and friends and family. We actually got the entire week off from school which was so desperately needed and even though finals are due next week I've been taken it a little easier this week. It's been great!!! I've been getting 8 hours of sleep, I've been able to cook my own food, no take-out, I did about 3 loads of laundry, I even got to rent and watch movies...I feel like a human again lol.
Oh and thanksgiving was amazing!!! I got to spend it at my rector's house from church. Two other families were invited as well so it was a big group of us and lots of fun. Everyone brought something so we had everything you could hope for...from red cabbage to cheesecake. It was heaven for my tummy!!! And then in the afternoon I took the girls to see the latest Twilight movie...which I have to admit was actually not entirely terrible...I'd probably even go as far as saying that it was the best one of the series yet. While we were at the movies the mom's went to Michaels...which is currently on my list of places to avoid because I'll just end up spending way too much money there. Afterwards all of us just hung out and chatted until it was time to go home and go to bed. The perfect thanksgiving!

So now that I've told you about my week let me talk a little about the card I made yesterday. I got some new Verve goodies recently that I've been dying to put to use so here you go. The stamps I used are all from the Glad Tidings set which is currently sold out...no wonder it is an absolute must-have christmas set. I used the brandnew Snowflake Tidings Die Set to cut out my snowflakes and then I got a little glitter and rhinestone happy and bedazzled my card. :)

Oh and before I forget:
Verve's Black Friday sale will be going on until this Sunday...35% off of selected stamps. Don't miss out on your chance for some new Verve for those christmas cards!!

thanks so much for stopping by and see you again soon for our December Diva Inspirations Blog Hop.

til then...Happy Holidays to you,

Sony
